Tattoo Aftercare

Leave the bandage on for no more than 3 hours.   The bandage is there to keep air-borne bacteria and other contaminants in the environment from invading your wound.

Before cleaning or touching the tattooed areas you must WASH YOUR HANDS thoroughly with antibacterial soap and warm water.  Treat your new tattoo as you would an open wound.

Carefully remove the bandage.  If it sticks, gently wet any applied bandage and gently pull it off so as not to damage any scabs or dried matter.  Don’t force its removal!

After removing the bandage, cleanse the area with mild soap and water then rinse.  Use your hands, do not use washcloths or scrubbing loofahs.  Also make sure all blood is washed off of your tattoo, this will ensure better healing. DO NOT SOAK YOUR TATTOO IN WATER.  Then pat dry with a clean paper towel or let your tattoo air dry for a hour.

* Lightly apply a thin layer of an acceptable aftercare ointment (i.e. Aquaphor or Lubriderm) after washing.

* Do not re-bandage your tattoo!

If any scabbing does form, DO NOT PICK AT IT.  Allow it to heal on its own.  The pigment used in your tattoo can easily be pulled out of your skin if scabbing is removed.  When your tattoo itches DO NOT SCRATCH IT.

If you have a reaction to your aftercare product, you may be sensitive to one of the ingredients.  Although it’s not a major problem, it does happen.  The skin can adversely react in a few ways:  Redness, irritable itchy skin, or white pimple like spots.  If this occurs, stop using that particular aftercare product and lightly wash the remaining product from your skin.  A reaction to a product should settle down within 24-72 hours.

Until your tattoo is completely healed: NO SWIMMING, NO SUN EXPOSURE, NO SUN SCREEN!

Do not consult anyone except your licensed tattoo artist regarding aftercare instructions!
